Principles of Design (visual qualities)

Line
Verticals/They are very strong in order to give that sense of Communism's power. The ideals of a well implanted system.
Horizontals/Indicating certain peace in the middle of all that revolution happening in the same context. Also, they are dividing the characters by category and generation.
Diagonals/These lines represent movement and dynamism in this case because of the idea of fighting for a new revolution.
Shape/Geometric figures predominate in the composition creating a solid structure and symbols which reflect politics.
Organic shapes and forms/Plants and the Cuban national flower allude to an asymmetrical form.
Color/value and intensity/The colors used are very bright and pure because of the technique which is Pop Art. The intensity of them support the whole concept of communism system and the strength of it. The values vary between the different personalities in order to separate them by groups or political position.
Texture/In this case the elements are defined by lines and contour because of the Pop Art technique which include only flat colors.

Verticals/There is a very strong vertical (the woman) in the center of the composition indicating rebellion, protest, and even sadness against the government system of that time. The column of the house has two straight verticals that support the ceiling.
Horizontals/The house structure made of wood brings a little peace and maybe quietness to the very sad scene.
Diagonals/Many of these lines on this painting show instability and chaos because everything seems to be falling dawn or braking apart.
Curves/It represents a resting moment or also a relief in the middle of such a horrifying situation. The smoke is represented in a curve way in order to reach its physical and catastrophic qualities a well.
Shape and Form/The painting has a predominance of geometrical figures that conform the broken house.
Organic shapes and Forms/Animals and human beings combined together in a very precise composition.
Positive and Negative space/ Space indicator
Color and intensity/In this particular piece the colors play a vital roll in order to reaffirm the horror and bring it to life. The emphasis of the colors demonstrate how bad was the situation at that time and the desperation trying to survive.
Texture/ Differentiation of material according to the elements to be able to perceive their properties.

Verticals/ Those verticals on the chair and the plants as well project a great interest to protect nature and to show how important it is for the author.
Horizontals/They give the idea of continuity of the landscape, and also a sense of peace because some people find freedom by being in direct contact with nature.
Diagonals/ Their use here is to illustrate some kind of realism to the leafs as well as relevance in the scene. Also, diagonals give sense of perspective to the chair.
Curves/Supporting the design of the chair in order to make it look really interesting and hand-made, an even a feeling of softness.
Shape/The whole composition is composed by very strong lines that vary in thickness and value.
Organic shapes/ Plants are the organic element by imitating the reality of nature.
Color/Value/ Intensity/The color factor in the painting is conformed by a mixed palette between cool and warm hues of green an red. The colors' values are very light in order to create a scene full of good inspiration for other people to love nature.
Texture/Color, line and shading create different textures to give the viewer the capacity to feel each material and identify it.
